Conduire à Essaouira — Dablal Cars, Essaouira

Driving and parking in Essaouira: the practical guide

Driving in Essaouira is simple as long as you know two or three local rules — especially around the medina, which is entirely pedestrian. Here is the essential information to drive and park with peace of mind.

The medina is pedestrian: where to park

You don’t drive within the old town. Park in a guarded car park at the gates : Bab Marrakech and Bab Doukkala are the most convenient. Expect a few dirhams per hour or a daily flat rate. Avoid unauthorised parking, which is frequently fined.

On the road: rules and common sense

Speeds: 60 km/h in town, 100 on the open road, 120 on the motorway. Seatbelt compulsory, zero alcohol level recommended. The police checks are normal and common at the entrance to towns: slow down, present your licence and the vehicle papers (provided with the rental), everything is in order.

Driving around the surroundings

The roads to Sidi Kaouki, Diabat or the argan tree road (Tamanar) are in good condition and easy. For the airport, expect 25 minutes — we can also deliver the vehicle. Still hesitating? Read Do I need to rent a car in Essaouira?.
